Airfield Motorcycle Training - Compulsory Basic Training

Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) was introduced in December 1990, primarily aimed at first time road users, the idea being to give beginners an introduction into safe motorcycling, and thereby save lives.

In has since been expanded to any rider required to display L plates. Initially CBT certificates were valid indefinately, but now only last for 2 years; so it pays to take further training and take a test!

To undertake CBT the rider needs a provisional license with group P entitlement for mopeds for 16 year olds. When aged 17 and above the rider may choose a machine over 50cc and under 125cc (And 11kW).

During the course the trainee will cover the theory aspects of bikes, practical riding in an off road environment, culminating in a minimum 2 hour road ride covering a variety of situations in traffic, but don't worry! Your instructor will be with you linked by radio to help you through every stage.
